Process Pathways' portals deliver.

A recent portal deployment provided a wide range of information, over 50 applications and work tools for over 60,000 users. In this project, combining Process Pathways' methods for function and community building, the user population grew from a pre-existing two-year high of 2,500 to over 30,000 in just 7 months. Since 2005, this portal community continues to grow at an average of 100 users per day.

Case Study

myUofC Portal

Situation:

The University of Calgary faced the challenge of dealing with numerous and diverse user administration, authentication and access controls for a wide range of work tools, services, information and applications within the university computing system. In some cases, students had to remember 6 different User IDs and passwords in order to access applications and services. Very few people were aware of or used the University of Calgary's portal https://my ucalgary.ca.

Solution:

Working with the University of Calgary 's IT department Process Pathways introduced portal project management, policies, procedures and best practices. We built and linked applications and work tools to myUofC.

We conducted focus groups with the application owners and users to ensure that we created maximum value to the community. Using uPortal consortium technology we customized the look and presentation of myUofC. In collaboration with the University of Calgary Infrastructure Team, we established a role-based access control that presents only the information and links required by the individual. Users can also customize their portal within the limitations of the portal infrastructure.

Result:

In collaboration with the University of Calgary, Process Pathways provided the project management and methods for a best-of-breed architecture with single sign-on to applications, work tools and services all rolled into one secure environment. Since our involvement with myUofC (portal), registered users have increased from 2,500 to 30,000 in six months. In 2005, over 100 new users were registered every day. Over 6,000 students, Faculty and staff access myUofC on a daily basis.
